Imagine yourself in a predicament which requires legal representation. Of course, you have to find a lawyer. The first thing you need to do is to determine what type of lawyer you need and decide the right one suited for your needs. But if you’re like me who know little about lawyers and the law, doing this can be hard and frustrating. Based on experience, here are some ways to find lawyers.

By Word of Mouth
Personally, word of mouth is the best way one can find a lawyer. You can ask your family, friends and trusted professional associates who have knowledge or have already experienced dealing with lawyers before. Get information such as legal fees and also comments regarding the service given by that attorney to help you decide better.

Employer-Paid Legal Services
Many companies offer legal representation/plan to their employees as part of their benefits. Depending on the legal problem, you either get the service for free or at a reduced price. You can ask your Human Resources if such plan or benefit is available.

Referrals from State or Local Bar Association
Another way to find lawyers is to get in touch with the state or local bar association and describe to them the situation you are in. Once it’s presented, they would provide you referral sources for free or at for a lessened cost.

Legal Aid
Legal aid is a service given by lawyers for less-privileged individuals that requires legal representation. It can either be free or reduced cost depending on specific qualifications. This legal representation is often focused on issues concerning family issues, credit, unemployment, landlord-tenant problems and utilities.

Online and Print directories
Print directories such as Yellow Pages have always been a great source of information for different business listings including ones for legal matters. However, it doesn’t have information regarding the lawyer’s competency; so, it’s a good idea to check legal directories such as Martindale-Hubble Law Directory. You can also search the Internet for websites that specialize in legal matters. Sites such as Attorney Pages.com lets users find lawyers based on specialty or location. Some websites offer a brief overview of the attorney’s profile to give you an idea of their skills and accomplishments.

Law Schools
This is another simple and easy way to find lawyers. Oftentimes, these places offer free or low-cost services for specific matters.

So, if you ever find yourself needing a lawyer, remember these suggestions given above. Whatever your needs may be, there is a lawyer that can help you at all times.

Don’t you know that judicial clerkship is among the most prestigious and competitive employment opportunities that graduates can undertake? This is not only because it serves as a gap between law school and the actual practice of law but it can also provide you with enough exposure to a wide array of legal issues and processes. But you should know that there are a lot of judicial courts that you can apply for a clerkship position. Try to familiarize yourself with them first to help you decide where exactly you want to work.

U.S. Supreme Court
Working as a judicial clerk in the U.S. Supreme Court is one of the most competitive job opportunities in the country. However, credentials of individuals who want to work as a judicial clerk there are given utmost importance. That is the reason why court clerks for the Supreme Court are usually not hired while they are still in law school. As a matter of fact, most applicants are required to be able to have already completed their clerkship service at the federal court of appeals level first before working for the supreme court.

U.S. Court of Appeals
Another type of court where you may want to work as a judicial clerk is the U.S. Court of Appeals. There are actually 12 regional circuit courts of appeal in the country where each judge would often have two to three clerks. Because of the small number of available positions for clerkship in this court, there is also a high level of competition like that in the U.S. Supreme Court. The D.C. Circuit, the Second Circuit as well as the Ninth Circuit are considered as the most competitive.

U.S. District Courts
You could also try applying for judicial clerkship at the various district courts in the United States. In fact there are 94 judicial districts in the country that have district judges as well as magistrate judges. Applying for a judicial clerkship in one of these district courts can be a lot easier as compared to applying in the higher courts because each district judges would usually have two clerks while magistrate judges would also hire judicial clerks to help them handle pre-trial matters as well as trials for petty offenders.

Judicial Clerkship is one of the most fulfilling jobs that you can have after you graduate from law school. So whether you decide to try your luck at the U.S. Supreme Court, apply for a position in the U.S. Court of Appeals or work in one of the 94 district courts, being a clerk would surely give you a different level of achievement. Apply as a judicial clerk in one of these United States courts now and experience the prestige this job opportunity has to offer.

Getting an injury is frustrating enough, but having a difficulty finding the right injury lawyer who could help you is depressing. But that need not be the case for there are a lot of injury lawyers that you could seek, only if you know where and how to find them. To make things easier for you, here are the three things that you need to ask regarding injury lawyers

Where exactly do I look for to find the right lawyer?
There are a lot of ways in which you would be able to find injury lawyers that can really help you. Try to think if you know any lawyers or perhaps ask your relatives and friends if they can recommend any injury lawyers that you can talk to. You might also choose to search over your phone directories or over the internet. There sure are a lot of injury lawyers listed there and you have the freedom to just narrow it down to at most five potential lawyers.

What are the things that I need to consider in choosing the best lawyer?
It is important for you to be able to choose a lawyer that you feel comfortable with especially when it comes to discussing your case. Look for someone who would make time and exert effort to manage your case. You also need to find someone who would not impose on you to pay unreasonably high fees. Research about the injury lawyer’s history as well as his reputation to help you gauge if he’s actually the right one for you. See to it that you meet each of your prospective injury lawyers so you would be able to personally assess if you can work with him conveniently.

What are the factors that I need to tell my lawyer about my case?
Well, it is best if you would tell your prospective lawyer everything about your case. This means including even the small details that at first glance may seem insignificant for you. It would also be best if you would bring pictures and documents related to your case.

Finding the right injury lawyers need not be a problem. The only concern that you should have is how you’d be able to improve your injury’s condition and eventually get better. Leave the legal aspects of an injury as well as the right compensation to your injury lawyers. Know where to find one, how to properly choose the best lawyer as well as the things that you may need to tell him so he can help you win your case.

Everyday about 2,130 judges and 26,238 court personnel across the country contend with over 780,000 cases before the courts, excluding the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Despite this severe case overload, Filipinos keep choosing to bring their case to court, unaware of other legal remedies. The poor and marginalized groups, in turn, often avoid legal matters entirely. Many are discouraged by the high cost of litigation, the case delays and a perceived bias favoring rich and educated litigants.

The Supreme Court of the Philippines embarked on the Action Program for Judicial Reform (APJR) to confront these and several other issues that negatively affect the quality and delivery of judicial services.

In support of the APJR, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) helped develop the Justice Reform Initiatives Support (JURIS) Project. The five-year JURIS Project addresses two elements of the APJR: strengthen and promote the use of mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to decongest the courts and improve the Filipinos’ access to justice, especially among the poor. Underlying the design of JURIS are commitments to ensuring the project is locally driven; building the capacity of organizations involved, both within and outside of government, who will be in a position to ensure sustainability of project activities; and to building a platform for ongoing judicial reform among a broad range of stakeholders.

Pursuant to Supreme Court “en banc” Resolution A.M. No. 01-10-5-SC-PHILJA, dated October 16, 2001, and in line with the objectives of the Action Program for Judicial Reforms (APJR) to decongest court dockets, among others, the Court prescribed guidelines in institutionalizing and implementing the mediation program in the Philippines. The same resolution designated the Philippine Judicial Academy as the component unit of the Supreme Court for Court-Annexed Mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms, and established the Philippine Mediation Center (PMC).

Pending the formal creation of a more organized and structured Philippine Mediation Center, a Mediation Division at the Judicial Reforms Office of the Philippine Judicial Academy-Supreme Court, was established to oversee and manage Mediation Center Units all over the country.

Since its inception in 2001, the Mediation Center Units have grown from seventeen (17) units in the National Capital Region to One Hundred Thirteen (113) Units located in Ten (10) out of the Thirteen (13) Regions in the country.

An internship program is now on-going in Malolos Bulacan which shall serve as our launching center in the Province of Bulacan. After the training and accreditation of the Mediator/Interns, it is expected that the most if not all the Metropolitan Trial Courts outside Malolos will have their own Mediation Units.

Preparations are also in full swing for the establishment of PMC Units in Zamboanga, Tuguegarao, Dumaguete and Pangasinan.
